At a recent Table for 6 event in Los Angeles, a group of professional women came together to share an evening of conversation, good food, and meaningful connections. The theme of the gathering was “Gratitude.” We reflected on what we were thankful for in 2024, the lessons we’ve learned, and our hopes for the year ahead.
The conversation naturally gravitated toward a few key themes that felt especially resonant for working women:
1. Making Ourselves a Part of the Equation
So often, we pour ourselves into others—whether it's our families, careers, or communities; but many of us forget to make time for ourselves. In the midst of our busy lives, carving out space for self-care is not just important; it’s necessary. We discussed the importance of making ourselves a priority, recognizing that we can’t pour from an empty cup. When we take care of ourselves, we can show up better in all areas of our lives.
2. Embracing the Power of Choice
One of the most empowering realizations from our conversation was that, no matter the circumstances, we always have a choice. In times of challenge, we may not control the situation, but we do control how we respond. Recognizing that we have the power to choose our next step can transform how we face adversity. It’s about taking ownership of our decisions and understanding that how we choose to react shapes our experience.
3. Finding Opportunity in Adversity
It’s easy to feel defeated when things don’t go as planned or when obstacles arise, but a powerful lesson that emerged from our discussion was the idea that in every challenge, there is opportunity. Even when a project derails, or a plan falls through, there is often something unexpected waiting to be discovered—new directions, skills, or ideas that wouldn’t have emerged otherwise. We learned that setbacks are not the end; they are simply redirections that can open new doors.
Gratitude for the Present Moment
These insights require self-awareness—the ability to pause, reflect, and fully experience the present moment. By being mindful of where we are and what we’re learning, we can make better choices and seize new opportunities. The women in our group expressed gratitude not just for what they had accomplished, but for the growth that came from overcoming challenges and the awareness gained along the way.
As we look ahead to 2025, we carry these lessons with us: the importance of self-care, the power of choice, and the opportunities hidden within adversity.
And so we ask you all...
What lessons did you learn in 2024?
What are you grateful for from the past year?
What skills or insights have you gained that you are excited to apply in 2025?
